Here is something you can do

Today it is snowing in the city of brotherly love. It's not quite the sort of snow that acculumulates and drives up the price of snow shovels, it's more the kind that gets your socks wet and reminds you to put your shoes on.

On days like this nothing is nicer than the feel of clothes fresh out of the drier, except maybe that plus some hot spiced cider, or hot chocolate, or maybe even egg nog. But if you're like me and trying to do your part for the environment, or maybe just save a buck on your utilities you might unknowingly waste your money and that fresh warm clothes feel doing your weekly wash. I mean I can't exactly dry my clothes on the line on a day like to day, this is the sort of weather that gets your socks wet so a clothes line isn't really an option. Mildewed clothes are likewise out, they are in most respects the antitheses of the fresh out of the drier clothes feel.

So what are you to do. Well don't feel stupid for not thinking of it, unless you enjoy feeling stupid, of course, but you could do a couple of things to both save your money, planet, and warm fuzzy feelings that aren't really much trouble at all. For starters since you are unlikely to wear an entire load of laundry, why get the ones you aren't going to experience hot from the dryer if you aren't going to use them. Just heat up the ones you are going to use, and only dry the ones you are going to put away. You can do this by setting shorter times on the dryer and removing items as they dry. In addition to this you are probably heating your home anyway so why not put the items you want warm next to the radiator or over a clean spot of baseboard or hang them from the fire place with care?

So instead of throwing your money away warming socks that are only going to reciprocate by keeping your feet dry (if that), only warm the ones that warm you back and sit back and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa warming your feet with the socks that deserve to be warmed, if not folded and put away.
